Bits & Bytes

On Tuesday, we will follow the "A" 2 hour delay schedule. Since it is a Day 2, we will follow the schedule for that cycle day. If we have another 2 hour delay on a Day 2 this year, we will follow the 2B schedule. If there is a 2 hour delay on a different cycle day, we will begin with the "A" schedule for that particular cycle day and rotate. Mr. Keiser is to send a reminder each time, however, I'll try to communicate this with you as well.

  • Keep papers anonymous
  • Do this work alongside at least one other teacher
  • Let the leveled student writing samples be your friend

The new SPP calculations are a perfect example of how the Common Core standards are challenging teachers to get students to think at even a deeper level. In this Educational Leadership article by Nancy Boyles, she suggests looking at Webb's depth-of-knowledge levels for developing questions. Those levels are:

  • Level 1: Recall and Reproduction
  • Level 2: Skills and Concepts
  • Level 3: Short-term Strategic Thinking
  • Level 4: Extended Thinking

The Common Core standards have challenged us in getting students to think at a deeper level. In this article taken from Educational Leadership, Susan Brookhart first suggests using open questions. As I come through the coming weeks, I plan on recording the questions that I hear and sharing them with you. Click here to read more.

Usually around October we start to notice a difference in some of the students' behaviors as the "newness" of a new school year begins to wear off. This means you may need to step up your game to ensure that all students can get what they need out of your class academically on a daily basis. ClassDojo may be what you are looking for. Mrs. Kurtzman and Mrs. Bortner are using this for their 2nd year and have had success with it. You can read a short article about it here.
