Q & A:

Over the past weeks, I have received several questions about Math and Remote schedules. Here are those with answers:

Math -

Each grade level received from me an email with content similar to this statement:

"Within each module are the specific standards to be addressed. Based on your current pre & post assessment combine results based on those matching standards and then coordinate the data to the spreadsheet. It does not need to be done by your data meeting this cycle. Please have the datasheet updated by the next data cycle and thereafter. Questions, please let me know."

I have received other questions to clarify this statement. Mainly the questions are around how to report the data and whether or not it is an option to report the data or not.

Over the data meeting times I explained that yes, I know you are doing the pre/post about a standard and that has been your focus. Many decided that the SAS Modules did seem to fit in terms of sequence and made some rollout changes while still keeping with the pacing expectation. Others have been following the standards but not necessarily in the modules, sequence or pacing as outlined in the SAS adoption last spring. So in other words, we are a little here and a little there. I understand. As teachers, you are filling gaps left from last spring and this has caused some adjustment in the routines laid out in the Math SAS Sequence and Pacing. In addition, each of you are prepping for hybrid/remote as well as brick & mortar instruction. So now, what is expectation since the first 9 weeks are in the books?

1. Each grade level math needs to, between last data meetings and next, go through the links I sent and begin to put your head around what each Module's standards of focus are including the eligible content. When reviewing ask these questions in what you are seeing...

a. Have you already taught one or more of the focus standards in the Module?

b. If you have, what was the student result from pre to post?

c. Are there standards in that Module still needing to be addressed and planned for?

d. Bring this information to the next data meeting. Whether on pencil/paper, Google Sheet, etc. Let's look at it together. Please also bring to the table any CDT data for the intermediate grade levels to compare/contrast with classroom assessment.

e. When is the next data meeting? January 8-15

REMOTE SCHEDULE:

Apparently, many are under the impression that the template remote schedule both Eric (start of year) and I (October email/blog) sent out was the absolute schedule that must be followed in accordance to meeting times, ROAR, small groups, lunch, etc. This is not the case, the schedule is a TEMPLATE. Modify your schedule if you need to. For example, if you have ROAR from 9:05-9:35 and want to keep that consistent for your students whether in remote attendance or not, you may change it. If your lunch is actually from 11:15-11:45 and you would like to keep that consistent for your students, you may do so. The schedule is up to you and how it would work for your classes/team members/etc. Live instruction is not negotiable and must occur at least twice during the day, if only for ELA instruction and then Math instruction. Heather Stauffer/Nickole Mellinger have created a Remote schedule that works for their students/team members/teachers of grade 4. If you would like to see their ideas, I am sure you only need to ask.
