The following link from Sarah McKibben describes three ways that students may ask teachers for help (or not) and how students should do the intellectual heavy lifting.
The three reasons include:
- Expedient help-seeking - Asking for the answer so they can move on;
- Avoidant help-seeking - Not asking for help when they actually need it;
- Adaptive help-seeking - Asking for just enough information or the blue needed to solve a problem, the goal being real learning.
Although the message may be directed to middle school aged students, it still serves as a good reminder on how we can change the students thinking at the elementary level.
Bits & Bytes
As we approach the busy season for delays, please familiarize yourself with the 2 hour delay schedule below. When we have a 2 hour delay, Chad Keiser will email the staff to inform you whether or not we are following the A or B schedule. For example, if we would have a 2 hour delay Tuesday morning, we would follow the schedule for 3A. We have already used 2A so on the next day 2, we will follow the 2B schedule.
